Outdoor swimming

Outdoor swimming fans are a wild and wonderful bunch, diving into nature’s pools no matter what the weather’s up to. If you’re on a mission to find the ultimate gift for that friend or family member who can’t resist a splash in the great outdoors, look no further! I’ve curated a list of sixteen thoughtful and handy gifts that’ll take their open-water escapades to the next level, plus one you should definitely skip! From gear that boosts safety to gadgets that crank up the comfort, these gifts cater to the whims and needs of those water-loving adventurers.

1. Wild Swimming Log Book & Journal

These are made by a company called ‘Good Tuesday ‘. They are printed in the UK on 100% recycled paper

A collection of colourful Wild Swim Journals – for all those passionate plungers that brave the cold waters in pursuit of connection, stillness and that deep sense of feeling alive.

2. Neoprene Gloves and Socks Set

Outdoor swimmers often face chilly water temperatures, which can be uncomfortable without proper protection. Neoprene gloves and socks provide insulation, allowing swimmers to enjoy longer sessions without worrying about their extremities getting too cold.

I know when I first started swimming outdoors, I didn’t have any, what a difference they make!

3. Waterproof bag

A waterproof swim bag is a must-have for outdoor swimmers, and more stylish than a carrier bag! I have seen a few personalised ones on Etsy. I like this one because of the swimmers on the material.

4. Funny gifts

You could get a funny gift, like this pin badge. If you have been outdoor swimming yourself you may know how difficult it is to get redressed afterwards, and you will probably find this funny.

5. Swim Buoy and Safety Device

Safety is paramount for outdoor swimmers. A swim buoy not only provides visibility for boaters but also acts as a flotation device in case of fatigue. Some swim buoys even offer built-in compartments for storing essentials like keys and snacks.

6. Insulated Water Bottle or thermal mug

Staying hydrated is key during outdoor swims. Check out theese thermal mugs, they can be personalised.

7. Waterproof Phone Pouch

For swimmers who like to capture their aquatic adventures, a waterproof phone pouch is a great gift. They can take photos, track their progress, and stay connected without worrying about water damage.

I’ve picked these because they are available in a variety of colours.

8. Thermal Swim Cap

I see alot of swimmers in wooly hats, but they’re not really practical if you like to put your head under the water. A thermal swim cap helps retain body heat and keeps the head warm, contributing to overall comfort during swims in chilly conditions.

9. A flask for hot drinks

After a swim it is good to have a hot drink waiting for you. Taking a kettle isn’t always practical so a flask is a great  idea, and here are some designed with wild swimmers in mind.

10. Anti-Fog Swim Goggles

Googles are great if you want to see underwater, and anti-fog googles are the way to go for ease. In my opinion they all start fogging up eventually, so the more googles the better, as if you swim alot you might get through a lot of googles!

These are the googles I bought last, and I am finding them really good.

11. Changing robe

Changing out of wet swimsuits can be a challenge in public spaces. A changing robe offers privacy and warmth, making the post-swim changing process more comfortable and convenient.

In my opinion don’t get the cheap ones that look like a thin towels – they are a waste of money as they don’t work well for adults who don’t like to flash their bits!

12. Outdoor Swim Guidebook

1001 Outdoor Swimming Tips: Environmental, safety, training and gear advice for cold-water, open-water and wild swimmers - 1001 Tips 5 (Paperback)

For those who love exploring new swim spots, an outdoor swim guidebook can be a treasure trove of information. These books often include details about the best lakes, rivers, and oceans for swimming, along with safety tips and local insights.

13. Swimmers mug

There’s a Mr or Miss about everything, and of course there is one about swimmers, so get a little Mr or Miss swimalot mug.

14. Long Sleeve swimwear

Another practical one is long sleeve swimwear.

15. Wild swimmer drinks coaster

For when the wild swimmer is at home contemplating their next swim.

16. Wild swimmer bedding

So even when they sleep, they can be dreaming about swimming in a duvet full of swimmers!

What not to buy!

Don’t buy this for any nervous wild swimmers!
